Little Love Tests You Must Take

While they may be a few major defining moments in your relationship, there are many, many more little love trials that test the strength and health of your union, especially in the early days. Will you make the grade?

Take a Trip

You can't get over how adorable it is that she keeps her sock drawer organized by fabric and color. But will that little quirk look so cute when she's nagging you for the third day of your vacation that you need to stop tossing dirty laundry back in your suitcase? Nothing uncovers annoying idiosyncrasies faster than sharing a hotel room.

Give the Silent Treatment

It's a myth that super-happy couples are also super-chatty. "Trying to fill all the lulls in conversation is unnatural," says Dr. Susan Perry, author of Loving in Flow: How the Happiest Couples Get & Stay That Way. If you're not talking because you're afraid to talk, that's a problem. But it's not a good sign if can't enjoy a little silence together, either.

Meet The Ex

Meeting any ex can be nerve-wracking, but when you meet The One That Got Away or The Life-Changing Ex, you jump right into a stew of emotions: jealousy, insecurity, regret, paranoia, grief. You can find out just how haunted you both are by your exes...and get an idea of how grown-up and gracious you can be.

Get "Friendly"

Meeting your beloved's friends and family feels so frighteningly important because it is. If you get chummy with her or her pals, you're more likely to stick it out as a couple according to a 2001 A Purdue University study. And if you don't hit it off so well? Some studies suggest that a partner is more likely to cheat if their friends and family don't like their sweetheart.

Fight the Good Fight

"Some couples define conflict as a flaw in the relationship," says Dr. Lew Moore, a marriage and family therapist at Harding University in Searcy, Ark. But, it's important to remember that all conflicts serve a purpose - to identify an issue that needs to be resolved.
