Would You Give Up Sex for THIS?
Would you give up sex for a month if it meant you would lose 10 pounds? Would you turn off your cell phone for just one day if doing so caused you to shed weight? Those are examples of the hypothetical questions Life Time Fitness Inc. posed to more than 2,300 people, most of whom were women, in an attempt to find out what people were willing to sacrifice or endure to lose weight.

Most women would give up sex for...WHAT? Men will be shocked at this. Women will laugh and likely agree.

Would you be willing to do THIS if it meant you were guaranteed to lose 10 pounds?

  • Run one mile every day: 65 percent
  • Give up caffeine: 49 percent
  • Skip one meal a day: 37 percent
  • Turn off your cell phone for one day: 36 percent
  • Give up using the Internet for one day: 30 percent
  • Give up sex for one month: 30 percent
  • Pay $500: 30 percent
  • Give up sex for one year: 10 percent
  • Postpone your wedding or other special event: 10 percent

People are desperate to lose weight. "If running one mile each day were all it took to lose 10 pounds and it was the proven answer, people would do it," says Tom Nikkola, director of nutrition and weight management at Life Time. "The problem is that it's not that easy. Running, or any exercise by itself, has been shown to be ineffective for weight loss."

Even with an exercise program in place, individuals who don't pay attention to diet often end up eating more food, negating the weight loss benefits of exercise. Low-fat, low-calorie diets, high doses of caffeine and lifestyle stresses also hinder weight loss and are proven to be ineffective for long-term weight loss results.

After all, if losing weight were easy, everyone would be thin. Instead, it's hard work. The only proven way to lose weight and keep it off is to move more and eat less.

If you really want to lose weight, don't diet. Yes, you read that right.
