LA Galaxy name te Kloese new GM
The LA Galaxy announced Tuesday they have officially hired Dennis te Kloese as the club's general manager.
"I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to join the LA Galaxy and look forward to strengthening all soccer operations within this club," te Kloese said in a news release. "The LA Galaxy and its supporters expect to compete for championships year-in and year-out. I am fully committed to putting together a team capable of competing at the highest level. That work begins immediately and will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, from developing competitive edges in our scouting, recruiting and player development to establishing our youth initiatives and further establishing our Academy. I want to thank Mr. Anschutz, Dan Beckerman and Chris Klein for this opportunity and the trust to lead the soccer operations group at the most successful club in Major League Soccer."
Te Kloese was most recently director of national teams for the Mexican Football Federation, where he worked since 2011. The 44-year-old Netherlands native previously had been director of Mexico's youth national teams. In 2003, he moved to Mexico to become scouting director of Chivas de Guadalajara before becoming director of soccer for Chivas USA from 2005-08.
"Dennis has in-depth experience and proven success on an MLS level, a youth level, and an international level," Galaxy president Chris Klein said. "We are confident in his abilities to improve our club's soccer operations in all facets. We welcome his leadership and are excited to have him begin as general manager. We will provide him with comprehensive resources to be successful."
The five-time MLS champion franchise has yet to name a new head coach after finishing last season under interim coach Dominic Kinnear. However, former Portland Timbers coach Caleb Porter was spotted courtside with te Kloese at a Los Angeles Lakers game Monday along with Klein and Dan Beckerman, president and CEO of the sports conglomerate that owns the Galaxy.
