Reports: Yankees agree to two-year deal with LeMahieu

Free agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu agreed to a two-year, $24 million deal with the New York Yankees on Friday, according to multiple reports.

LeMahieu, 30, batted .276 with 15 homers and 62 RBIs last season for the Colorado Rockies. The 15 homers were a career best.

LeMahieu won the National League batting title with a .348 average in 2016. He was a two-time All-Star and won three Gold Gloves during seven seasons with the Rockies.

LeMahieu has a .298 average with 49 homers and 349 RBIs over eight major league season. He reached the majors in 2011 with the Chicago Cubs before being traded to the Rockies during the following offseason.

Bringing on LeMahieu could signal that the Yankees are out of the Manny Machado sweepstakes.

New York also agreed to a one-year, $1.2 million deal with first baseman Greg Bird to avoid salary arbitration. Bird batted .199 with 11 homers and 38 RBIs last season.
