Canucks get G Mazanec from Rangers for 2020 draft pick
The Vancouver Canucks acquired Marek Mazanec from the New York Rangers on Tuesday to bolster their ailing corps of goaltenders.
The Rangers will receive a seventh-round pick in the 2020 draft in return.
The Canucks needed some depth in goal with Jacob Markstrom and backup Thatcher Demko both sidelined. Emergency call-up Mikey DiPietro, 19, got roughed up in his debut Monday night in a 7-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks.
Markstrom was slated to get the start but experienced tightness in his lower body.
Mazanec, 27, was signed by the Rangers as a free agent in December 2017. In 20 games this season with the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, Mazanec has compiled a record of 7-8-3 with a goals-against average of 3.01 and save percentage of .903.
Mazanec has 31 NHL games under his belt, all with Nashville.
