Rays 2B Sogard returns to starting lineup
Eric Sogard is part of Tampa Bay's starting lineup for the first time since Sept. 14 as the Rays visit the Houston Astros in Thursday's Game 5 of the American League Division Series.
Sogard is batting fifth and playing second base in the winner-take-all game.
Sogard has been dealing with a bruised right foot since fouling a ball off of it on Sept. 6.
The 33-year-old Sogard started on Sept. 14 against the Los Angeles Angels and aggravated the injury. He pinch-hit the following day before missing the rest of the regular season.
His lone appearance in the postseason was as a pinch-hitter in Game 1 against the Astros when he recorded an RBI single.
Sogard batted .266 with three homers and 10 RBIs in 37 games for Tampa Bay. He was acquired from Toronto at the trade deadline in late July after batting .300 with 10 homers and 30 RBIs in 73 games for the Blue Jays.
Sogard is 2-for-15 with a double, two walks and four strikeouts against scheduled Houston starter Gerrit Cole.
