Montreal MF Maciel suspended an additional game

Major League Soccer suspended Montreal Impact midfielder Emanuel Maciel an additional game Wednesday and issued an undisclosed fine for "serious foul play" in Sunday's win against Vancouver.

Maciel received a red card after tackling Whitecaps midfielder Cristian Dajome from behind in the 70th minute of the 4-2 win. He served that suspension during Wednesday night's rematch against Vancouver, and will also have to sit out Montreal's Sept. 20 game with the Philadelphia Union.

The league also issued two undisclosed fines to Whitecaps forward Lucas Cavallini stemming from Sunday's game.

Cavallini violated the league's policy regarding hands to the face, head or neck of an opponent in a 58th-minute confrontation with Montreal defender Luis Binks.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee gave Cavallini a second fine for his failure to leave the field of play in a timely and orderly manner after receiving a red card.

Maciel, 23, has two assists in six games during his first season in the MLS.

Cavallini, 27, has one goal in seven matches in his first MLS campaign.
